It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas

Well I have  most of my gifts made, just a couple to finish up. Covering a couple of diaries for the girls in some super owl print fabric I found really cheap.  I have finished the doorstops for now and also made one of the girls a wheat sack.  I have also finished the two dollies I was making for the littlies, I am going to try and make a carrier basket for one of them too - that is the plan for tonight anyhow :)

In my travels I also picked up a quilt panel and I will make up a play quilt for my great nephew Chase. I am going to have a go a machine quilting the top so it should be an interesting time.

Anyhow - Merry Christmas to a Happy New Year, may you and your families all be happy and safe over the festive season.

All in one nappy :) and bowel cancer :(

Well after another day remembering my late brother-in-law who passed away 6 months ago at age 47 from bowel cancer - people get a check, it might not be the nicest thing you do but it could save your life. I know I have been having colonoscopies for the last 5 years and have had quite a few precancerous polops removed. Thirteen the first time and 6 the second. I worked for a medical company and had close association with many specialists and apparently if a polop is going to turn into cancer you have about 5 years before the changes start so I am glad I had my checks otherwise I could be inn the same boat as Al. Anyhow that is my advice, see the doctor and ask about having a check.

♥♥♥ RIP Allan ♥♥♥

So now we get to the newest creation.....I have made an all in one nappy, a reusable cloth one so the new mums who do not want to be bothered with pins and have a heck of a time actually making a cloth nappy stay put.  I borrowed a disposable nappy from a family member and made myself a pattern.  I used soft flannel for the outside and a cheap stretch jersey for the inner liner (which I picked up in the clearance bin at the local fabric store)  and some terry cloth to make the insert.  Below is the result.  The camera angle makes one tab look much larger than the other I am not sure if it is down to the camera angle or maybe just the photographer!  I hope you find it as interesting as I did making it. And yes the 29yo sewing machine handled the job superbly.

RIP Jessie Paula Cate 12 months today

Well it is 12 long months since my beautiful niece Jessie was taken and murdered at 15 years of age. It does not get any easier to think about her and what happened. She was the most beautiful child with a smile to warm the world. Now her smile is warming us from above. I suppose we were lucky that she was brought back home within days at least we are not worrying and looking for her in every crowd. And the b**tard who did this has faced justice, if you can call 18 years justice - but that is the best we could have got here.

Miss you and your smile Jessie everyday. Did you watch when Bec and I got your tattoo? People ask about it and we are proud to tell them it is one you designed, changed a bit for your memory of course but the basic design is yours.

♥♥♥ Love you Jessie  ♥♥♥

It has been a hard few days knowing it was the anniversary and to make it stranger the storms were back, out of season, just like when Jessie was taken.  I did not go to the public memorial because I did not think I would be able to cope. Even though I was not there the whole day I was thinking of Jessie and remembering her privately.

So after all the spinning head and emotion of the past few days I made a mess of the door stop I made - well I wanted it to be shaped like a house but I did not line it with fusable webbing so it sort of bulged, a bit like me really hehe. It now has pride of place in my laundry holding my back door so the loss of something I think others would like is my gain.  I also have not cut out the other door stop I planned to sew, now I am even further behind :( but I have finished making the pattern so hopefully that will work first time.

Here;s the pics

Here are the pics of the doorstops I have made, a little strange looking but I am getting there. I have started another tonight - it is nearly midnight so it will be finished tomorrow, at least that is the plan. No pattern just cut on in to it ! Made from a coupe of old calico rice bags, I am going to make a house design.  Will also cut out a hippo to make another doorstop, another Christmas gift. I fill them with cat litter, clean of course :) a polyester toy filling, because it is grainy enough not to leak from seams, heavy enough to make the weight and it is cheap.

So now here we have Ruby Red

Eleanore Elephant

So now I have put these up here, it is off to Facebook for me, while searching for patterns in other tabs :)

New direction? Machine sewing versus hand sewing

Well last night I had a little thought - can I make some of those eco type cloth nappies?  And guess what I think I can by gosh. I will have to get the sewing machine out and give it a good dust out, it is 29 years old lol. I will also have to get out to the fabric shop for some more supplies.

I don't think I will be able to hand sew this. I have been doing a few bits of hand sewing just lately, a quilt for me, a memory quilt in memory of my niece who was murdered almost 12 months ago, some baby things like bibs for my new great nephew Chase and some door stops for Christmas presents. I like to hand sew when I can because it is therapeutic and I feel that more of the love I have for the person goes into the project.

I have had to design the patterns for the stuff I have done just lately because apart from not wanting to spend the money I have never found a pattern that is just right...

Well that is all for tonight, I will get some pics loaded another day.

Bye.....

This is the beginning

Hi folks, this is my blog about things I think about and things I wonder about. I am disabled and mainly housebound and miss work and the social interaction that allows.

I love to travel and have a passion for Bali and its people.

Trying to find a new place in the world, somewhere I can make a difference or even just occupy someone's mind if just for a few minutes.

I have decide to start crafting at home, it occupies me and hopefully will lead to bigger and better things in my life, maybe even an income of sorts as time goes by.

Feel free to link to my blog as it starts and grows from its tiny beginnings.
